24th Birthday

Posted in Lifestyle, Style

Today is my 24th birthday - which is craziness to me. Sharing 24 facts you might now know about me + the cutest denim tank on SALE for $10! Facts about me in celebration of my 24th birthday | The Blonder Life

Denim tank | White denim | Tan heels | Straw hat (similar)

Hi, friends! Today’s post is a little bit different, but it’s my birthday so that’s a reason to change it up, right?! Well, actually tomorrow is my birthday but that’s beside the point. I’ve never been that person who was super into their own birthday, for some reason. I love planning other’s birthdays and tend to go a little overboard actually, but when it comes to my own I don’t really think about it.

This year I’m turning 24, which is so weird to me! I was actually just telling a friend that I remember in college I thought by 24 I would be married, and thinking about having kids – WHAT. Now, I could not even imagine having kids, or being married. It’s still shocking to me that some of my friends have been married for two or more years!

Instagram Q + A with Jamie

Posted in Lifestyle

So today I'm bringing yall a quick little Q+A! I asked yall on Instagram to ask me anything, and yall asked some really fun questions!

So today I’m bringing yall a quick little Q+A! I asked yall on Instagram to ask me anything, and yall asked some really fun questions! I think I’m going to start incorporating a mini Q+A in the Blonde Chat series! What do y’all think? That way any question I get either here, or on my social media I can answer and direct you to that post!

Let’s just get into the answers for yall’s questions! And, if you want to be featured in a future Q+A be sure to follow me on Instagram!

How did you come up with the name for your blog?

I knew right from the beginning that I wanted the word blonde in my blog title! After searching around most of my original ideas were sadly taken. After getting over my initial disappointment I started looking into different ideas revolving around the bright side of life or trying to see a different perspective. I finally decided on The Blonder Life because it sounded a lot like the brighter side, and it just stuck. I do get a few questions asking if my blog title was thought of after dying my hair blonde, and I always have to explain that my color is au naturale and I just liked the wording!

How long does it typically take you to write and shoot for a post?

This can totally depend on a few different factors! Sometimes I’m feeling super inspired and can crank out a blog post in an hour, or less. Other times my brain is just fried, and I cannot for the life of me write any more about the cutest pair of wedges I just bought.

Shooting depends on one of two factors. Most of my lifestyle content I shoot myself, and that takes probably 30-45 minutes max. Then editing can take another hour or so, and all of the little tweaks that go into making a photo blog worthy! For my style posts, I usually hire out a photographer and shoots last about an hour, or hour and a half! And then I get the photos back usually only a few days later!

How old were you when you started blogging?

I actually started this blog my senior year of college as a school project! So, I was 22 I think? College seems forever ago…

How far in advance do you plan the content for your blog?

This I am trying to be better about! I usually have at least 3 posts planned for the month ahead of time, and then all of the rest just come to me on a weekly basis. I really want to start filling out my content planner completely with maybe only a few openings for last minute brand collabs and inspiration!

Where do you find inspiration for your posts?

Anywhere! Pinterest, shopping, Instagram, other bloggers, the list goes on! Focusing mainly on style content my inspiration really comes from latest trends and what I think my readers will love the most!

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Honestly, I love it all. I have made so many awesome friends through it, and it has really helped me get out of my comfort zone in so many ways. Blogging is such a fun way for me to be creative and share my life with all of yall! I am so thankful I created TBL almost a year ago!

Favorite clothing trend?

Eeek! How can I choose just one favorite trend? There are so many fun trends happening right now! I’m especially fond of the athleisure trend and definitely off the shoulder.

What are your tips for staying creative even if you feel uninspired?

I think giving yourself some time off is super important! Blogging is a lot of work, and it’s a constant need to feel on top of it all. Whether that be staying on top of trends, or knowing the best recipes, or anything else. It’s exhausting! Feeling uninspired and burned out can happen pretty frequently. What works best for me is to take breaks when I feel like I really need it, and try not to just produce crappy content because I think I need to post on a certain day or time. Give yourself some time, and the creative juice will start flowing! If taking a break isn’t possible for you I love scrolling through Pinterest at other bloggers posts and gaining inspiration there!

What does a typical day look like for you, and do you blog full time?

I do not blog full-time! That is the goal, and hopefully will be a reality in the next few years. Typically a day in my life is full of work, playing with my dog and lots of social media and blogging!

How did you learn to do cool braids?

My two older sisters have been amazing at hair ever since I can remember. My sister, Lisa did my hair for every school dance growing up and even did my hair for prom! They’re both really amazing at braids so I have really learned just from watching them through the years.

Go-to vegetarian dinner?

I make at home Chipotle bowls a bunch! I throw together rice, black beans, pico, salsa, corn and whatever else I have in the fridge that sounds good! It takes under ten minutes usually so it’s really nice to make after getting home from work!

I hope yall enjoyed this kind of post, and hopefully, you feel like you know me a little bit better!

The Blonde Chats Vol 4

Life Update Vol 4 | The Blonder Life

Hi, there friends!

It’s been a hot second since I have had one of these Instagram roundup/ life update posts on TBL. I have been a little crazy in the life department, and honestly have been feeling less than inspired lately in the blogging department.

Burnout is a real deal yall. I have had so many nights where I told myself I was going to get blog stuff done just to crawl into bed and want nothing else but to indulge in some Netflix binging. Hope yall can relate. Netflix obviously has been winning lately.

I do apologize for the lack of posts on both here, and Instagram! Follow along if you aren’t already here! I have been struggling to find a work/life/blog balance and am still figuring that out!

Vol 1 Vol 2  Vol 3

It’s been almost 10 months since I graduated college, which is seriously crazy to me. I have yet to adjust to the world that is adulting. Like loans, and taxes will be the death of me. Forever missing 4 day weeks, and eating my weight in queso and margaritas. I am so not cut out for this real world stuff.

 What’s next for TBL?

So many fun things are in the work- ranging from lifestyle, recipes and of course style posts! I had a reader survey a few posts back and asked yall what kind of content yall liked, and of course what you weren’t a fan of to better plan content for this year! I only wanna produce posts that benefit yall, and I always love hearing from you!

I currently have a blogging schedule of Monday, Wednesday, Friday but have been thinking about nixing the schedule altogether. Craziness, right? Ha, but really. Sometimes with a certain schedule, I feel so inclined to just throw up a post, and not really put my heart and soul into every post- which is obviously what I would love to be doing. I haven’t quite decided yet on that issue, but will keep you guys updated.

Within the next month or so, I am going to be doing a rodeo series! I am going to be sharing all of my favorite ways to wear cowboy boots, and how to wear them without feeling like a phony. I know a bunch of girls who normally don’t wear cowboy boots have such a difficult time styling them, so I think that series will be really helpful! Keep a look out for that!

How To Make Your Commute Suck Way Less

Posted in How To, Lifestyle

8 Things to do in the car during your work, or school commute | The Blonder Life

I have never been one of those people who love driving and finds long drives relaxing. Nope! Not me at all. All four years of college I went to a university over three hours away from home. I have definitely had my fair share of driving.

Now that I’m graduated, I still haven’t quite escaped the long driving thing. Although it’s not three hours I still do commute to work every day. Thankfully my office is only about thirty minutes from my house, but add Houston traffic into that mix and we tack on an extra fifteen minutes. So not fun.

I have found a few ways to make commuting suck less. Whether you’re going to work, or even school these tips should help you feel a bit happier during your drive!

Things to do in the car during your work, or school commute.

Listen to a podcast. There’s so many on iTunes and Spotify you can download straight to your phone. I love Sophia Amoruso’s Girl Boss radio podcast on Spotify!

Listen to calming music. There’s so many great playlists on Spotify! Turn it on in the background and try to relax on your otherwise hectic commute.

Use Waze. This app is a life, and time saver! It will direct you to the quickest route, which will sometimes make your commute shorter!

Bring a snack. This could totally be a Jamie thing, but something about having pretzels or candy to snack on during my way to work makes me happier.

Download a brand new album and jam out. Find a brand new album you have never listened to, and spend your commute listening to all new songs.

Be productive. Something about wasting thirty minutes in the car really bugs me. I tend to use this time to make a to-do list, or start mentally planning out blog posts.

Carpool if you can. Driving alone can be super boring, especially if it’s a long drive. Grab a friend who works nearby and plan a schedule! This would be a great way to save on gas too!

Spray fresh scents. Keep your car clean, and smelling nice! Sitting in a dirty car on a long drive will make you feel antsy. If you like essentials oils, check out this car oil diffuser!

The Ultimate Guide To Saving Money in 2017

Posted in Lifestyle

9 easy ways to trick yourself into saving money each month | The Blonder Life

We’re all looking for new ways to save money, and how to add a bit of a cushion to our saving accounts. No matter where you are at financially, saving a few bucks here and there can only benefit you! Who doesn’t want some extra cash in your dream vaca fund?

It seems like every year around this time is when people are on the hunt for new ways to save money. The Holidays can hit our wallets hard, and the new year can be a time to get back on track financially! Speaking from experience…

I am truly not an expert at saving money, but I am working on it!

Related: Blogging Goals + My New Years Resolutions for 2017

Whether you’re wanting to save up for a plane ticket, or even a new car these tips on saving will benefit you! I wanted to include both ways to save up a large amount of money, and of course a few tips on how to spend less on certain wants! We know we all indulge in a latte here and there.

  • Encouraging sticky notes. While I was saving for my camera this past year I put sticky notes up all over my bathroom mirror. I wrote things like “stop eating out” “you WANT that camera” etc.. Basically just encouraging words to remind myself to keep on saving!
  • Hide your cash. In college I babysat every week, and got paid via check or cash. I would immediately put that money in a container and basically “hide” it from myself. Having cash, or a check out of your sight will help you to not use it! If you only get paid in the from of direct deposit try taking out $30 from each paycheck and doing this trick! For some reason hiding cash will really get that sum of money out of your head. It’ll be a nice little “surprise” when you go to deposit it all for your big purchase!
  • Save your side hustle. Like I said, I babysat every week in college! I also was a gymnastics coach in addition. I used what I made coaching for all of my needs, and spending money then saved everything I earned babysitting.
  • For “want” purchases visualize using it. How many times are you actually going to use that selfie stick that’s $20 in the check out line at Target? Try to rationalize with yourself, and see if you are going to get your money’s worth. If you think you’re only going to use, or wear something a handful of times I would pass on it.
  • Pinterest recipes. Basically, a big part of my problem is the amount of money I dish out on eating out. Whether it’s a Starbucks or a Chipotle bowl it adds up friends! Pinterest can be your best friend when it comes to saving money on food. Obsessed with this recipe for at home caramel macchiatos.
  • Spare change jar. Empty out your wallet, or pockets every night before bed into a designated jar. You would be surprised at how quickly extra change adds up!
  • The 5 dollar plan. Put away just $5 a week into your savings account. That’s only $1 a day.
  • Continue your payments. If you just paid off your car or even a house continue with those payments. You have already budgeted for that sum of money, so go ahead and deposit the amount into your own savings account each month.
  • Choose cash back. This is my favorite way to save money, and usually works the best for me! Everytime you go to get groceries, or another bigger purchase choose cash back and take out $5! Then when you get home put the cash away. You will barely notice the extra money you took out since it will seem like your grocery bill!

If you enjoyed these tips please let me know in the comment section! What’s the way you save money, and what works for you? I would love to hear all of your tips!
