Why Fashion Rules Should Be Broken

What are fashion rules? And why do they even exist? No white after labor day, and no black with brown are the two big rules I do not agree with and have never followed. I feel like fashion is so unique to each individual, and rules get in the way of that.

So mixing black and brown might make a lot of you cringe, or think “woah Jamie this is a big fashion no-no”. But I’m here to tell (and show) you that black and brown are the perfect accents to each other! Seriously, mixing black with brown has always been a love of mine.

I remember my sophomore year of college one of my friends had told me that I wasn’t “allowed” to wear a black top with a brown belt. Wasn’t allowed to…? I was so confused when I was told this and thought who is going to stop me and tell me what I cannot wear? And whoever this is I really wanna meet them.

Is there some fashion book somewhere telling women what they can and cannot pair together, or what color they need to put in the back of their closet for awhile? Cause, I have yet to find this book. White denim with an oversized sweater and brown riding boots is my go-to once Texas decides to cool down. I LOVE wearing white all the way into winter, and I think it’s such a fun almost pop to any fall/winter outfit.

If you wanna wear white this fall season and rock a black dress with brown boots then do it girlfriend!

This look I’m sharing with you guys is an easy, and subtle way to start mixing brown and black in the same outfit! Styling an outfit with mostly black, and then throwing in brown accessories is my favorite way to mix the two tones. Bonus if you find an accessory that has both colors.

How do you feel about black and brown, or fashion rules in general? Do you completely follow them, or are you a rule breaker like me?

Fashion rules are lame! Everyone is different and how we like to style clothing pieces is going to vary from person to person. I love the way you paired the black dress with the brown boots. Super cute!
